Keeping your hands warm, the 18th century way. How do you do this in winter weather? My tim ein the woods this year got me thinking. What are ome PC option for 18th century gloves, mittens, fingerless gloves ect.? I know there were knitted mittens, and the military had leather gloves. But how common were plain mittens sewn out of wool fabric? What was used in the 18th century?

   I AM NOT LOOKING FOR THEY COULD HAVE, THEY MIGHT HAVES, OR ANY ANSWERS LIKE THAT. IAM LOOKING FOR SOLID ANSWERS THAT CAN BE BACKED UP WITH DOCUMENTATION OR ARTIFACTS.

Try Diderot.  Sewn cloth mittens.

out of wool cloth 100% correct.  Mittens all the way. am going to be working on some for myself when i get the pattern fingered out ha,ha,ha.  I have read that you want to make them from wool that is presrunk for sure. Seen image of french gloves and they are way crazy looking. way crazy...  hold on i found the image of the french mitts and gloves. here you go

Silly me... searched under "Chippewa" and they aren't there. Didn't realize there was "Ojibwa" farther down.
