I'm going to make this 24 bore fuzzee' an indian gun. Have never made one.  It belongs to a Huron(Wayndote) indian either working for the french or on his own in the great lakes area about 1725-45 or so.  Brass tacks on forearm, Iroquois cross on rt. butt stock, "Au Roi" (for the King) ahead of it. bone turtle on left butt behind where you mount the gun.  Short barrel 26" for easy carry on canoe trips.  Sorta HC I think, anyway that's what it is...Tom

Tom, I like what you're doing I like how you think....I mean I really get into that "little dab of this, splash of that, and then rub this in"...if you want something personally unique, it has to have that little bit of uniqueness added IMHO.

Not a thing in the world wrong with that in my mind.
Over the years, I've also done a few things outside that box of conventional wisdom, some were real well received while others were much less.
Looking back, I honestly can't say that in all likelihood, those not well received were just as much effort, if not more in some cases, than some of those others thought so highly of.

It's just you doing your thing, your own "Lil Fuzzee" .  :notworthy

I'm really getting a little antsy along about now, shouldn't be much longer until "we" shoot her, right?

Title: Re: "Lil Fuzzee"
Post by: Uncle Russ on January 21, 2013, 08:54:15 PM
That's a fairly fast twist, no?
Should be able to run a fairly heavy, 450gr plus, conical at about 1800 plus with a little load tinkering, wouldn't ya say?
Why did you choose the .50 for the platform?
Elkie and Deerie are the average man's safari?
With that 15/16 bbl, you'll be able to build a fire in that thing that will put some hurt on your shoulder!

Back when you lived in WA, you lived in what I always think of as one of the most beautiful places on earth.....Forks!
Never seen anything like it before, and I've certainly seen nothing better since.

Used to Steelhead on the Hoh and the Dickey, wonderful country, wonderful water.
Fished the Dickey for years until the Quileute closed the launch site outside La Push.
I used to fish the Queets too....Ox-Bow launch, IIRC, or something to that effect
I lived in Shelton for 20+ years before moving over here to Central WA....Moses Lake to be more precise.
Gave up my sled for a Walleye Boat. I can see the Lake, and I can see the boat launch at the end of the street, and that is just as it should be. A wonderful little town for an old retiree.
I'm about 30 or so minutes from the big river at Vantage....anytime I get that burning urge to pull some plugs, it ain't all that far away.

Keep up the good work!  :lt th
Projects like yours will keep an old man awake all day. It don't get no mobeta than being able to cook up something in the mind,  then go out in the shop and just do it!

Sounds like a mirror to my life for 30 years.  I've fished all those places as well, Have had 3 drift boats thru the yrs. The Hoh is my #1 river of choice.  Never fished out a Vantage,  just shot ducks & geese all around that area.  Crab crk & Warden 2 places I spent a bunch a time. I truly miss it. I didn'y choose the .50 it's actually for a $$$ client.  As far as load ???  around 100 gr. & some kinda conical is what he wants.  Recoil, don't tell a soul but he also specified a super magnun Pacmayer pad!.....Tom

That brings up a question I've had bounce'n around in my noggin for more than 45 years,.... back in the old trappin' days, when someone made mention of their "riflegun", could they have been referring to a smoothbore trade gun "loaded with ball", and NOT an actual rifle?????????
Title: Re: "Lil Fuzzee"
Post by: pathfinder on January 24, 2013, 02:40:00 PM
Nope. The addition of a ball doesn't put rifeling in the barrel. We can go on,but let's not highjack this thread. I'll start another in "Smoothbores" See ya there!

Here's a target. Shot yesterday, 60 g. 3f = #7 lead shot.  2  1/8" cards over pwdr, & 1 overall & 20 yd. 34 hit's on top 1/2 & 43 on bottom 1/2 !!  I think "Moderate felt recoil, nothing like a modern 3" 12...I'm happy & so is guy who ordered one like it....Tom

Tom, is that a regular 8.5 x 11 piece of paper?

At twenty yds, that ain't shabby at all!
43 hits bottom half, 34 top half....70+ shot on that size of paper is not bad at all, considering there's only about 300 pellets in a full ounce of shot in that size, if I remember right.
