Thought it might be nice to have a monthly thread to discuss our monthly TMA Silhouette Results. I'll kick it off since I shot my April targets this morning and got my scores posted. As soon as I receive each participants results as the targets come in to me, I will get your scores posted as well. However, don't wait to make comments if you'd like to after you shot your monthly targets as we're always happy to hear from you all!  :toast Here we go...

As I said, I got out this morning and had high hopes. I wasn't disappointed on my 3 shots at the Chicken as I actually hit it all three times - boy I was feeling good until my first shot at the Ram when it struck at least 1-1/2 inches below his belly! Wow!!! What the heck happened was going through my mind??? I reloaded and took my 2nd shot and hit the Ram and this time with the ball striking solid at the center of his middle rear which certainly would have toppled him had he been made of metal, and wounded him had he been real..... (still scratching my head on the first shot at the Ram) these targets will (I believe) humble all of us throughout our shooting season - but dang they're fun to shoot at!

Okay, things had to get better on the Pig, I thought,,, not so! First shot a big fat zip! The edge of the ball hit about 3/16" in the white away from his lower front leg... I'm beginning to think, "man, I was counting on sweeping the Ram and Pig, they seem like the easier targets - what's going on?"  ???  I reload for my second shot knowing full well I can't leave those 1st shots behind me at the dang Ram & Pig - but also knowing I have to,,, so I toe the line and quite honestly I'm still reliving those missed shots...  Somehow I pulled myself together and managed to hit the Pig above the rear of his front leg. Got a little confidence back as headed for the Turkey... :-\

Well, I don't how I did it, but I did managed to get all three shots on that Turkey over a vertical spread of 3-1/8 inches from the head to the lower chest. I think that was only because I accepted my mind set of, "ah, just aim and shoot." All in all,,, I really like this game of TMA Silhouette!  :bl th up

Remember, you can darken the center of your targets if you'd like to. I use a chisel tip sharpie for mine. just stay inside the lines. 25 yards offhand - flint or cap lock. Today I used my cap lock, .45 caliber with a .445 spit-patched ball and 55 grains of 3fg Goex.

You read my mind, Hank  :toast

I think you might find that same excuse on page 404 of Al's Great Book Of Excuses.
And, if I'm not mistaken, Al has a copyright on that huge book.
Ya know, some silly thing about original thought infringement.

I'm willing to slip Al a Five'r if he can wait until I get to the bank with my ten one dollar bills so I can get a ten dollar bill,,, then I'm not sure how long it will take me to get back to the bank to break that ten dollar bill into two five's?  If Al can hold off on an infringement case against me, I'm feeling confident that by September or October I'll have this figured out unless the bank gives me one five, and five one's, then I'm not sure what I'll do?  :o

I'll be sending the April results, miserable as they are, your way tomorrow or Wednesda, Joe.  I have run out of excuses, but can only say I really suck at this!  Maybe I should try a different gun for the May match????

It's a long way to October, Maven, lot's can happen. Thanks for getting out and taking part, and that's the most important part of all this.  :shake

By the way, (and don't tell anyone) I'm switching to my flintlock the rest of the way - so I already had my big day where I got lucky twice with the ol' caplock in April. But I'd just rather use my flintlock, it's so much more fun to shoot and I need the practice, not that its done me any good in the past on targets this size, but I might find a bone?  :)

Don't worry about it Joe...MY book is the Big Book Of Reasons and Explanations.  Far be it from me to use an excuse!  I'll leave that to others.  :P

Don't admit to anything, Rob, read Als' book.

Not to worry my friend, you'll do just fine come Mike Fink time.
However, I do kinda like that idea of Hank's when he says, "Don't admit to anything"....

I haven't shot my targets yet, almost afraid to.
(It has been months since the last time I last shot.)
Anything I shoot over 50% will have to be looked at as a modern day miracle.

With my arthritis and bum shoulder, I am just hopeful I can do as well as you did.  :bl th up
Got me a Cortisone shot all lined-up for my right shoulder for tomorrow afternoon, now a lot of times that will do the trick for a couple of weeks, or thereabouts, other times I depend on "Over the Counter" Medication, as served across my own Bar in the den, but for some reason that has never been conducive to me shooting any better...

Not pitiful at all, Rob... A day at the Range is better then a day at work, no matter what the results is what I'm a thinking...  So well done getting out there, and getting 'er done.  :bl th up  We've still got a long way to go in this Silhouette game my friend.  :shake

Got out to the range today - SCARY!!!  The durned critters wouldn't hold still for me.  First the chicken tears across the target, so I put a shot in front of her to stop her.  Then another in the feet so she couldn't take off again, then finally the coup-d-grace with a perfect head shot.  Then the ram, but he jumped up on the first shot and I grazed his belly.  The second shot put him down for keeps, though.

Change target.

Anchored the piggy with a belly shot, but he back-pedaled on the second just as the hammer was falling and I missed.  Well, the turkey behaved much like the chicken (birds of a feather, etc.) so I had to shoot in front of him to stop him.  Then he jumped forward on the second shot and I plucked some tail feathers.  That stopped him enough that I was able to hit him in the neck on the last shot.

That's my story, and I'm sticking to it!   :laffing

Well dang, I just reread the rules and saw that I screwed up royal.  Yes siree, I see that I was supposed to write my moniker on each target and forgot to do that.  :Doh!  I reckon that invalidates my April score.  Ah, ratselpuss.

Well, it's better than when I went through the NCO academy for the National Guard.  On the map & orienteering exercise we were given four sets of coordinates and a map.  At each of the coordinate sets on the ground, was a fence post with a coffee can inside of which was a code name.  We were to go to each point in turn and write down the code name in sequence on our assignment sheet.  Being a land surveyor and used to working with maps in the woods, I found all of the points in jig time.  The instructors were highly impressed that I was done a good half hour before anyone else.  Unfortunately, I did not write the points down in the correct sequence, so I failed the class.  Shuckey darn!  Live and learn, I guess!  :laffing

NCO school also taught us to take initiative, and boy did you get lucky or what! I was an NCO as well,,, so I forged your moniker!!! How 'bout that! You're good to go! Compliments of the 1st Infantry Division....  :hairy

Thank you muchly!

I really don't remember what our unit was.  My active duty time was in the Navy from June '62 through Nov. '65.  Then in 1982 I was working on the Tongass National Forest and some of the people in the office were in the Guard, on landing craft.  It seemed like a great deal, get to play with boats and paid for it so I re-upped.  Later I was in Oregon in an artillery unit as surveyor, then Navy Reserve as engineering aide, back to the Guard as forward observer (all in Oregon).... Went back to the Tongass and on the boats.  Then the governor decided that the boats cost too much and sent them to Washington and I was in a Scout battalion.  Somehow "they" lost all my time except for my active duty.  It was restored by a friend who was in headquarters after I sent him all my LESs, but a year later it happened again.  It was getting harder and harder to keep up with the young bucks so I said "the heck with it" and went inactive.  I did enjoy my time in, though.
