My smooth-rifle Early Lancaster is still in the white, but in the finishing stages. I'm building it with a removable rear tang sight to make it a smoothbore w/NRS. I guess I'll need to get back on it. Got to get it to finished. The restructuring of my shooting technique and thought process has been treating me well since the early fall of 2016.  I've refocused my technique from the mount through the follow through, sighting the target and selecting. Shoot the toughest first through the easiest, while keeping in mind they're all tough. I don't take practice shoots before shooting the match. TMA's match I shoot the chicken, then the boar, then the turkey, and lastly the ram. The more shots you shoot, the faster you shoot; the more fatigued you get. Take your time, spread out your shots and squeeze the shot off when you're on target. Trying to hold on causes fatigue. If you don't get the shot off, drop your hold and put the gun down, shake it off, rethink what you want to do and then redo it. Always remember where you are, who's around and BE SAFE. These are some of what I've re-established for myself, Just saying....

Excellent advice Jack! :hairy  Now if only I'd follow it. :Doh!

Printed mine out today.  I've been bow hunting so will have to make some time to shoot this contest..  I am going to try RB's in my NE Fowler .62 cal.  Have only put shot through it so far.  If it does real well I may try it in December in the muzzleloader season.  For NY gun season opener it will be my 58 cal SMR flintlock.

Good advice Jack but like Paul following it is another matter.

Thanks, Joe! :)  However, as nice as a rear sight is, I prefer the simplicity of the front sight-only trade gun even if the result in this instance was only ~half as good.  Next time I'll try the stippled RB's I wrote to you about.*

*I discoverered I had a coarse wood rasp and almost as coarse a file on my work bench and thought I'd try rolling .597" RB's between them.  It took ~30sec./ball and the results looked exactly like those shown in the Vortex video and the ones my friend used at last Sunday's woods walk.

Thanks Joe, I'm really enjoying Smoothbore shooting.  It adds a whole new dimension to flintlock muzzleloading.

Congratulations Paul !!
:hairy

I did my best to get over to the range and shoot before the 15th, but I just couldn't make it happen.

Of course I can't shoot as well as you do, but I betcha there's times when I have every bit as much fun trying...lol

Once again, I am personally quite proud of the drive and the initiative you display by getting out there and doing it all the time. That has to be appreciated by all of our shooters, and I feel quite sure they feel the same as I do.  :bow

Uncle Russ...

Thanks Russ but you're too kind.  I think I just had a couple good days when I shot over my head.  The stage I'm at with my smooth bore shooting you gotta take em when they come.

Well unfortunately I am not going to make the deadline and the rest of hunting season is in jeopardy as well.  Did something to my left shoulder a few weeks back and cannot hold a gun up of even turn off a light switch.  Praying it is not rotator cuff but suspect it is.  Has acted up before and careful treatment of it for a few weeks and several trips to the chiropractor has cleared it up.  So we will see.

I didn't get a chance to get out either, Dave. Holidays/hunting season/work/ weather, it all adds up this time of year.

Sorry to hear about your shoulder. Sure hope it gets better.
