Title: We Need To Do Something Like This (Similar)
Post by: Ohio Joe on August 05, 2019, 01:29:17 PM
Watch the video, and then decide if we should adopt a similar type of shoot - but only at 100 yards and using a paper gong (size to be determined)...

I hate the thought of walking down that far anymore to set up either a gong or an A21 - 200 yard NRA Target, but it does look like fun / challenging.

There was a time we were allowed to drive down Range to those longer distances and set our targets and drive back so we could shoot...

As usual, some folks are just plain stupid and drove down to the 200 and 300 yard range and parked their pickups there so they could speed shoot at close range with their targets on the 30 foot high berm...(idiots) All they had to do was use the 50 yard Pistol Range to the south with a 20 foot high berm,,, but then they would have to walk 20 yards from where they parked... Their reasoning was stupid, absolutely stupid, so the intelligent members have had to pay the price with no driving on the Range anymore - it's strictly carry in / carry out...

But I do agree, it's looks like fun!  :hairy

Looks like my glasses are working today.
I have a strong suspicion that Joe is jerking my leg, because I could have sworn the only thing I got last night was a video of a snake swallowing a rabbit.

That's my story! And I'm going to hang on to it as long as I can...... :laffing

How'd they do that?  :o

For the last year or so I've been trying to hit a 18" square steel plate at 300yds.
Last week was my closest yet - missed by a foot.

I have to aim around 15 feet high. In the past I haven't been able to see where I hit - too much smoke. Tried enlisting a range officer or video'd it to get some feedback.  Tried something new. I closed left eye, aimed, then, holding steady as best I can, I opened my left eye and watched as I pulled the trigger.  It worked. I saw the puff of dust on the berm behind the target.

Someday that steel's gonna ring out!

LOL!!! Russ, last night I was watching one of Mike's videos of a snake swallowing a rabbit over at his neighbors house... Why that would show up when you clicked on that 200 yard gong shot video - I have no idea, but that's interesting... I expect that was at Mike's end...

Beliveau shoots at 200 yards quite often for practice. He featured one of his videos doing that.   It takes some practice. At the one range I shoot at I'll shoot cross lanes at a body shaped steel target. I usually hit it, last month it was a miss. The target is a good 200 yds out and you can hardly hear the ping when the ball hits.

I've shoot at 200 yards before and hit the big gong that use to be at our local Range (it was a 24" circle - mild steel) and with hold over and hold off (depending on wind conditions) I could hit it pretty regularly... It got to the point it was so pitted and full of holes it was finally taken down and junked for the safety of the shooters... I've also shot at paper 200 yard target with success (again - hold over and reading the wind). Fun stuff for sure.

I've seen Mikes (Timothy Murphy) video, with his swivel breech rifle about getting it to 200 yards... However, the one thing that baffles me is how tall his front sights are on that swivel breech rifle... So I don't know if he decided to go "sight base aiming" or just what? I'm not sure he ever shared that / or I missed it.  :shake

Bill, if I recall I think Mike has a couple video's out about "Sight Base Aiming" which are very interesting and informative...

Sadly, I'm a "hold over" & "Kentucky windage" 200 yard shooter (which actually worked okay when I was younger - but now I'd have to do some re-learning)... Wish I'd a stayed with that 200 yard round ball shooting. It was fun.  :shake
