Hello everyone, it’s been a long time since I’ve been on. Life happens. I am writing because I will be starting on my first build, and like to know if there is any way I could help prevent rusting of the underside of the barrel of a full stocked rifle. Like I said new to this part of the hobby, but looking forward to it.

I just wax the heck out of the underside of my barrel with old school Johnsons floor wax, 5 coats, did that 5 years ago, removed the barrel last month and it's still good, applied another 3 coats just because I could

I've not experienced rust on the bottom of my barrels / but I don't live in a high humidity area... I just use Birchwood Casey Sheath Rust Preventive (inside and out) - and I do like Beaverman's suggestion above. :bl th up

Being I shoot a caplock and most generally remove barrel when cleaning I just coat both inside and outside of barrel with Bore Butter, been doing it for over 30 years, no problem.

I only remove a barrel if: 1. there's work to be done on it. 2. it's been heavily rained on and is soaking wet.
About every two or three years I'll pull the barrels and check, re-wax the barrel and reinstall.
