Title: My (new) old powder horn
Post by: rollingb on August 10, 2020, 09:14:10 PM
The antique powder horn I bought recently finally got here today.  :applaud

The horn has more cracks than I was expecting (four cracks instead of the one I was told about), plus a hole in the horn (near the base plug) which is probably from bugs eatin' on it.

This powder horn is beginin' to look like it'll need some beeswax/pine tar, and a full-length rawhide repair in order to be put back into service again.

Nice, do you know where the horn was from originally?

All of those cracks, it may have to end up a wall hanger?

Unfortunately the place of this horn's origin is "unknown",.... I bought the powder horn from a fella in Pennsylvania.  :bl th up

There is a chance the horn might end up as a wall hanger,.... unless I can render it air-tight with some traditional repairs.

Once the horn is fully encased in rawhide and is air-tight, it can be used (again) for many more years.  :bl th up
