Title: Original Punt Gun
Post by: Feltwad on October 24, 2021, 06:07:50 PM
Enclosed is a image of a original punt gun that I am moving on from my collection  The gun is flintlock conversion to percussion with a ten inch lock , 1.3/8 bore and a 100inch long barrel built roughly about early 1700,s it is now too heavy for me to handle so the gun will be sold at Holts December auction UK .Thought it might interest members has to what punt gunning was like in the UK  when it was popular these gun were known has [Tools Of The Trade] for which the early fowlers made a living

Now that's something for sure Feltwad!  :hairy

When I saw the lock & drum, I figured it had been a conversion from flint to cap. If it could only talk.  What a piece of history for sure! :hairy  :shake

[ Invalid Attachment ]  [ Invalid Attachment ] The powder then was a coarse powder known has cannon powder or kernel powder  the powder would be in  ounces depending on the shot charge which  could measured  from 3/4lb to 1.1/2 lb, shot size   was BB for swans and geese down to 7 size for small waders and starlings in the reed beds .

No worries, I'm aware of that still looks to me like someone chopped up a wall gun!
