Title: Mountain Man Musket Co.
Post by: No Powder on March 15, 2023, 06:12:04 PM
Has anyone ever heard of Mountain Man Musket Co.? Among other things, they offer interchangeable barrels for Hawken type rifles. I called and talked to someone who gave me a lot of info. But when you are talking about prices that we discussed , I believe you can't be too careful.

I saw it on another forum. Typed it in and behold there it was.I believe it was in Knox PA.Have some guns for sale and offer replacement barrels for Hawken type rifles. It sounds like they use some of TC's old machinery. When I first saw
it, it was a gentleman's name who made replacement barrels. Then they referred you to Mountain Man Musket Com. Surely there's someone out there who has heard or dealt with this company. Maybe I  was right about being careful.

No website, just a Face Book page.  Doesn't mean it's bad or good, it is what it is and I have no clue what this "company" us all about.

IIRC, when I ask him what a drop in for my TC Hawken flint would cost , he said $575. That was with cerrokote on. He doesn't do bluing.I think I'll take a rain check.

A Green Mountain Drop In Barrel for a T/C Hawken in .54 cal, complete and blued, would run you $299.00 at Track of the Wolf.
Unfortunately they are out of stock on that item, but if they had it, that would be a much better price than Mountain Man Musket Co.  They sound really proud of their work.

I didn't think you could even get Green MT drop in barrels anymore. The last one I bought was from Log Cabin Shop a long time ago . IIRC it cost me $160. They wanted to unload them. For a long time if you inquired about them, you would be told they were out of stock or they were no longer made. Some time back I checked with Deer Creek and made no headway with them .I truly believe they are no longer being made.

Why would anyone want to put a cerracote barrel on their sidelock rifle?

Not me, but I think it would be just dandy on a Knight rifle.   :scared:

I ask him if I could get the barrel in the white. He said I could. I asked him if it would be cheaper in the white. He said it cost him $35 to cerracote  the barrel, so it would be $35 less in the white. I don't want that stuff on my TC Hawken.

I prefer all trad muzzlloaders in-the-white, the way it was mostly done back in the 18th century.
