Problem with butt plate.
« on: September 08, 2013, 01:10:13 PM »
I have a .54 Lyman GPR.  When I shoot it the top (horn?) and the bottom (horn?) cut my shoulder.  After about 25 shots it just become to unbearable to shoot.  I am a large size person and the butt does not quite fit in the shoulder pocket.  Other than changing out the butt plate and changing the profile of the entire butt area, what would be the best way to remedy this problem?

How about something like this?Butt Pad.jpg[/attachment:1bdlsqtm]Make it to look a little more period correct & the hollow can be stuffed with dry grass.

Hadn't even thought of that.  I have some rawhide that would be perfect and look period correct.  Thanks.

Would you be able to slide it down off your shoulder onto your arm? I have a Vincent that must be shot that way.

I probably could but I have fired other rifles that way and I'm not as accurate or comfortable.  I may give this one a try just to see.
