Pictures of my new flintlock pistol
« on: November 11, 2014, 10:31:35 AM »
I was asked by another member to post some photos of my new pistol so here they are. This gun is the creation of my good friend, John Pruitt, over in Spring City, Tennessee. I bought all of the parts I needed from Muzzleloader Builder's Supply. However, once John started putting the thing together, he culled some of my pieces in favor of ones he had laying around or made himself. Since he is the gunsmith, I let him have free reign over what would work best.

Specs: The gun is roughly in the style of a Kentucky pistol. The barrel is an octagon-to-round that is 12" long. It is a 62 caliber smoothbore so I can shoot both round ball and shot out of it. It has a left-handed large Siler lock to go with all my other left-handed flintlocks. John fashioned the stock from a piece of walnut and put osage trim on it just to purty it up some.

One unique thing about this pistol is the ramrod and ramrod holder. Usually the ramrod is a piece of hickory and the holder is a series of brass or iron "pipes" that it slides through. John didn't like what he was sent so he made a brass tube to hold the ramrod and then wrapped brass around the hickory to make it all match. Notice the osage trim around the brass - really cool!

Here is a closeup of the lock, trigger and trigger guard. John made the trigger guard out of some more brass he had. Again, I just love the osage trim around the lock!
