ShootingTargets7 (Labor Day Sale)
« on: August 31, 2019, 10:04:46 AM »
Just wanted to give those a heads up who may be looking for quality gongs that hold up to muzzleloading round balls and (even high power modern cartridge rounds) ShootingTargets7 has their (Labor Day Sale) going on with discount if you use their pormotion code LABORDAY

I highly recommend them, their AR500 gongs are fantastic and hold up great! If you're interested, I would suggest;

1/2" x 6" Gong (I like mine for 40 to 50 yard usage)

3/8" x 8" Gong (I like mine for 50 to 70+ yard usage)

3/8" x 10" Gong (I like mine for 70 to 100+ yard usage)

I mention this as I'm planning on our TMA having a few (perhaps bi-monthly) Postal Match Gong Shoots in 2020...

Those that can't shoot gongs at their local Range will be able to use the NRA TQ-3/1 Target for the 6" gong (all scoring rings), and the NRA TQ-4 Target with 7 Ring Black for their 8" gong,,, and the 6 Ring of their TQ-4 Target for their 10" gong... (In this case, scoring rings on the paper NRA Targets will only be used to determine a "paper" gong size - and a hit (or nick) in any of the "eligible paper target scoring rings" at their set distance is considered a hit...

It will be your call weather to use a paper gong, or a metal gong.

NOTE: I like the 1/2" x 6" gong for the shorter range(s) 50 yards and under, as that extra 1/8" of metal is pretty friendly to minimize the swinging time of the target - though there is no reason you couldn't use a 3/8" x 6" gong for 50 yards as by the time you reload your muzzleloading firearm - it will have stopped swinging.

Joe, I am ashamed to admit that the gong I bought over a year ago has not been used. A portable stand was in plans back then and that has not happened either.
Maven and I ordered and received ours on the same day.
Hope Maven has accomplished more with his than I have.
Mine is destined now to my back yard for practice with Air Rife which I do practice with quite a bit.
Last year, and so far this year, I have shot just over 2,000 .177 pellets, as I only recently opened the 3rd box.
It's great practice for off-hand discipline!  :laffing

The pellet rifle is good practice for the off-hand discipline, no doubt about it.

I know some of our shooters enjoy the gong shooting (I'm one of them) and I know some can't shoot gongs as their home Range won't allow it.  So I'm gonna post an alternative using paper targets that are readily available that folks could use to replicate the, 6, 8, and 10 inch gongs. I'll post it here in a minute.

As they say, a picture is worth a thousand words, and here is the alternative to metal for paper 6" 8" 10" gongs (IMHO)

-or- you could just use the TQ-4 target and consider the 8 Ring Black as your 6 inch gong, instead of using the NRA TQ 3/1 target..  :shake

Joe & Russ, Yes, I did use the gong target a few times, but haven't since last fall (surgery and complications from it essentially ruled out any offhand shooting until recently).  However, I intend to remedy that right quick!

6" diameter x 3/8" thick.  Btw, I painted it, day glow orange on one side and primer white on the other as it couldn't be seen against our 25 yd. berm.  One would think it would be hard to miss, but I found that not to be so! ;)
