Order From Track

A few months back, I was lucky enough to win a $50.00 Gift Certificate from the TMA for Track of the Wolf.
I have been wondering what in the heck to buy with it?  Up to a week ago, I had not a clue.  I mean, really, after all these years, I probably have all the fun stuff I need.

Then along comes this ad for a PA Hunter here on the Trade Blanket and that rifle just spoke to me.  Buy me, Bigsmoke, it said, buy me.  Kinda like the beaver talking to Charlton Heston in The Mountain Man.

So, I did.

As I looked at the rifle, the idea came to me that it really would look a lot better as an English Sporting Rifle.  And Track has a great  trigger for an English Rifle.

Then, I started thinking about the smoothbore .62 caliber barrel that came with the rifle.  Where the heck am I going to buy round ball for that?  Not in the Central Coast region of Ultra Liberal California, that's for sure.  Track of the wolf catalog lists a double cavity .595 Lee mould.  Yea!!!

I'm almost ready to hit the ORDER button and I think, lead ladle, what about a lead ladle.  Oh rats, I sold mine just a couple of months ago.  Right on time.  Anyway, got that added to the order and pressed the button and presto, in my mailbox today was the stuff.

So, what I have been beating around the bush about is to say THANK YOU, TMA.  I REALLY APPRECIATE THE GIFT CERTIFICATE.

Whew, I was worried there for a moment with the trigger; the trigger guard looks like it will be a dandy for the PA Hunter!    I had thought of doing something like that but was afraid of screwing it up.

We will need photos when it is done!

OK Kees, you passed the test.  That was exactly what I meant to say - trigger GUARD.      I find I am doing that more and more often these days.

And I will be more than happy to post photos of the finished project, if and when it is done.  Haven't even laid the new guard along the rifle to see how well or not well it is going to fit.  Hold on a minute, I will do it right now.
Well, shucks. It was a great idea but it just isn't going to work.  It appears the trigger guard and the trigger assembly is all one unit.  I am sure it could be done, but only by a person whose skill set was much better than mine.  Hope Track will take back the trigger guard.
So, sorry no photos upcoming.

That was what I remember and why I didn't try.  I suppose a person could cut the guard off the trigger assembly, then drill & tap it to mount the new one but that was more than I was willing to try!

Well, here is kinda how it would have looked.



I think that would have been a pretty handsome installation.

It is not really all that much out of reason though to think that possible by changing trigger assemblies it could, and could is the operative word, it could work.  With all the wood gouged out to install the present factory unit, a simple pinned trigger wouldn't work.  A trigger bar would be necessary.  So, back to the Track catalog to see what they have.  One of these days I am going to think of a simple project and it will stay simple.
