Had a great day on the Current River!

A good friend and I spent yesterday with Bill Smith, of Scenic Rivers Guide Service, fishing for smallmouth on the Current River. We put in at Owls Bend, near Eminence, MO, and fished downriver a few miles. I've known Bill and his family for most of my life and they are some fine folks. Bill also knows how to put a feller on some fish! We hadn't even hardly pulled away from the bank when he started demonstrating how to fish a new rig. He caught a nice largemouth with his first cast! I thought that was a pretty good lesson.
We didn't catch any monsters but we made up for it in quantity. Plus, we were in one of the prettiest places on the planet so it was time well spent. Sure, I may be a bit biased because I grew up in the area but you'd have to have a heart of stone not to be moved by the beauty that surrounded us.
Of course, I caught the most fish and the biggest fish, but that's what happens when you are the one telling the tale. I'm looking forward to going back and doing it again soon!

I actually thought about building a small rowboat before buying my Water Tender rowboat... I believe our friend Hank in WV built a boat if I recall. You can bet it's a good one if Hank built it!

Wow Joe, you sure have a good memory. I'm afraid the boat I built wouldn't be much good for fishing. It's an 18 foot cedar strip kayak and only enough room in it for me or the fish, not both.
If I recall, Kees had a canoe in the works awhile back.

Ah, a boat is fun and relaxing!
Hank, I remembered you talking about that build.

Speaking of a good memory!
I did, but I messed up and it ended up hanging from the rafters in the garage. I may have found a way to fix my errors (except for trying to make a 12' canoe from 16' plans). We'll see.
