Okay, this weekend I got my lathe leveled, need to change the oil, and I will be ready to start my breech plug installation (i have to cut off part of a damaged end and rebreech).
my wood came, darn, Track is fast.... the lock (flint) is a few weeks out. I should have the breech done by then.
I am reading "Recreating the American Longrifle". Now mind you his is going to be a half stock. so... I am thinking of kinda following the patterns in the book and stopping 16 or so inches out...
So, I prefer a plain rifle... never was much for foof. Would any of you folks be willing to post some pictures and maybe some dimensions so I can start to draw up my wood.
I like the idea of the Vincent but the butt stock... yikes. The Hawken style is too bulky... I am trying to get some pictures of a West Virgina mountain rifle in half stock but.... All I am seeing are full stock. I am thinking of something... cross between a... ya, that is where I get stuck... I was thinking of an New England sporting rifle but... I think this is going to be flint... wasn't originally but... it is heading that way.
I kinda like the looks of my Renegade (no brass or metal that is not needed) but it is just not... Old enough looking... it kinda has too modern of style in the butt.
I am getting loster.... The more I get into this... Help....
