Looking for a 20 ga wad cutting tool
« on: December 10, 2012, 02:35:38 PM »
I have been using wool scraps as wadding in place of tow on my fusil with good reults. I'd like to try some wool wads if I can find a cutter that will punch wads of .615-620 size from blanket weight wool scraps.

Anyone have a maker or source?

Thanks.

Captchee uses a co2 spent cylinder cut off on the large end, and I tried it. works perfectly! Just file it sharp on the inside. Oh and punch out or drill the cly valve end so you can push wads out.

Rick,

Try e-bay with a search of wad punch.  I purchased a few different sizes a while back and although that seller doesn't currently have any listed I saw that there was another seller with a 20 gauge punch listed.

Melsdad used to make them. I think he's still a member here but don't know if he still makes them.

A 5/8" leatherworkers wad punch works for me.  I got mine on Ebay.

For a 12 ga punch I stopped at a local gunsmith's shop and asked if he had any bbl cut-offs (which he did). I sharpened the edge much like that osborne punch and use it to punch wads for my 12 ga...

Though I already had a 5/8" punch for years, I bought a couple of sets from HF.  One was hollow ground and the other was a set of cutters that you install on a rod.  Both sets have given excellent service and I can recommend them.  Plus they were very inexpensive.

I have one that is custom made to my bore size by a member from another forum. Think it was $10 or $15.  Love it. I get hard felt 1/8" thick from Durafelt. Give me a PM.

Gasket punch from local hardware store works fine.
Place your clothes and your weapons where you can find them in the dark.

5/8" arc punch. Google it. They're everywhere, even Office Depot.
