[& I am not refering to the current "lack of "supply" ::)]  To day we want our TP to be soft, plush etc. {pic.1} BUT,  it was not until ca 1935 ( just 7 years before  I was introdused to TP. ; that TP W/O SPLINTERS became readly available to The "Amer, great unwashed" :Doh! {pic2 }
& apperently our fore fathers/mothers had it even " rougher" -- view this :toast -- https://www.pinterest.ie/pin/512284526363622476/

Ever hear the expression, "rougher than a cob"?  Then again, "Bronco" brand TP (ca. 1971) wasn't a soft touch in England either.! :laffing

Agent chuckles: “ Whadaya mean ‘John Wayne’ toilet paper, Chief?

Chief: it’s rough, it’s tough and it don’t take no shit off Indian.

We have a second bidet ordered for the downstairs bathroom.

Coming from the Dutch East Indies (now Indonesia) we didn't use tp.  A bottle which fit under the sink faucet was filled and that water used with your fingers to clean the appropriate portion of the anatomy, after which you wash your hands.  Carol didn't like that idea so now we have auto-clean.  The one upstairs even has temperature control, a heated seat and a blow dryer!  Anyway, we're set as long as we have water pressure.
