Priming horn gift

Went to the range with a friend who happens to tinker around with powder horns. I noticed he was using a nice little priming horn. So I asked him if he made it, and complimented his work. After a few trips downrange, I got in my muzzleloader dry box to get something and lo and behold that horn was in my dry box. So I asked my friend why it was in my box. He said I should take it home with me. Argued with him a little, but he wouldn't take no for an answer. So I thanked him and it came home with me. [ Invalid Attachment ]   [ Invalid Attachment ]

Might be a little bigger than it needs, but at least I won't run out of priming powder. I've seen that happen several times.

I know for sure ,you know who the giver is Hank. Maybe the next time he and I go shooting, I should compliment how nice his gun looks. Never know, it might end up in my truck.

Nice little horn.
But what the hell would a person use something like that for?
I guess you could put a cap on the end of that brass shiny thing and hit it with a rock and see what happens.
In all seriousness, they can be problematic at times and in real humid, damp weather, I have heard of them sludging up.  I think the cure for that would be to take the plunger and file a bevel on it.

Easy John, easy John. I know everything I use isn't pc. But at least I'm still putting a flint , and real BP in my smokepoles. I've tried those priming horns with a stopper in them, and the tremors sometimes cause me to miss the pan and dump some on the ground. That black gold is too expensive to be doing that. At least with one of these I can keep it in the pan.

AS pointed out, a priming horn isn't much good in a cap gun, except maybe to trickle some FFFFg into the nipple it it doesn't go bang.  But it sure is a cutey, maybe enough to carry in a pocket when out to slay the wily deer....

No Powder, I tried various priming vessels over time, and always had problems with that fine powder clumping in them.  I now prime from the horn, but if I DID need a separate container for priming powder, I would get out my old nose medicine squeeze bottle with the guts removed.  Maybe not PC, but I never had any problems with moisture getting in.

Kees, I've always said, Whatever floats your boat. It holds way more than I would ever need for hunting deer. I seldom ever to shoot , so don't need much priming powder. I've played a little bit with FFG for priming and got less than satisfactory results. So I still like FFFFG the best. If it starts to gum up, a couple bumps with the heel of the hand generally corrects that. So as far as using that bottle you referred to, Whatever floats your boat.
