How's your bird?
« on: November 26, 2009, 02:13:13 PM »
One and all--

Curious as to who's eating what today. Some game you took? Critter you raised? Something from the grocer? I want to hunt up a turkey for the day one of these years. Haven't tried that yet, but flintlock turkey's high on my bucket list.

I have no idea what's on the table myself, since we are joining my wife's sisters and 94-year-old mother at the retirement high-rise in Seattle. Good part? No preparation. Bad part? No leftovers.

Best wishes to you and those whose company you keep,
Kermit

Have a 20lb bird in the freezer, not going to cook that beast yet as it's going to be a nice quiet Thanksgiving here with SWMBO, just the 2 of us for a change, so it's a ham this year, plenty of leftovers from that 10 pounder, will be eating ham for the next week, the bird can wait till xmas and when I have enough room in the freezer to make a half dozen home made turkey pot pies to freeze up from the leftovers!,

I have three surviving sisters out of five and my brother.  Gonna see two of the girls and my brother plus a passel of assorted kids from 3 to 33 at one of the Sister's houses this evening.   There'll be just barely enough food for an Infantry Division, so leftovers are a given.  My Arizona sister has brought a couple of big jars of pickled watermelon rinds.  She says they are identical to what Mom used to make when we were kids.  I loved those things.

Me and the missus have had TG here at Hawk Station for the last thirty years, so it'll be good not to have the work and mess.  That and my Sis's place is bigger so more room to sprawl after dinner.  Only down side is the dang TV will be on to holler over.  We're taking fresh baked dinner rolls and a fruit salad.  I'm taking the batch of pickled eggs I made last week. I'll be the only one eating those as I put a little can of diced jalapenos in 'em.  The eggs haven't picked up the chili heat yet, but the onions in there sure have.  I should just make a couple of jars of pickled onions some time.

Ozzy's going, too.  My Arizona sister and her husband haven't met him yet.

Anyway, all youse guys and yer famblies have a good Thanksgiving.

We just finished off about 1/3 of a 20#er.  Just the basic family, but very well done and everyone pitched in.

We have gone to others the last few years and was good to stay at home this year.

Well it was just Mrs snake and myself. Turkey breast, oyster dressing, mashed taters and gravy. Then about 3/4 of the way
in the GreenBay/Detroit game, warm pecan pie with vanilla ice cream. Mrs just loves football...Good thing or we would not be married 27 years come 12/21/09.
We had a very enjoyable day together. All of her and my kids called
wishing Happy Thanksgiving.
