28 Bore fowler in progress
« on: July 05, 2013, 03:09:15 PM »
Here's a little project I'm trying to get finished, 2 others in front of it right now.  So take a look & let me know your thoughts.  28 bore X 36" OTR bbl. by Greg Christian, Oregon black walnut 1/2 stock Chambers small Qn. Anne lock. Weighs 5 lb. as you see her.  Click on pic to see whole series.  A fowler made in Pa. just before the AWI with strong English influence.  A "grouse" gun.......Tom

Sweet...would make a nice deer shooter up here where the typical shot is 50 yds or less...but, with that size bore, you'd need to really work up a good pattern for birds...

At 5 pounds I think it would be grate for grouse. She will cume up fast and swing  nice.
 Good work Tom, as allways.

I'm glad to know someone makes a 28bore barrel that doesn't weigh 7lbs by it self!!! My 28 fowler finished out at 9lb-2oz and doesn't get used much because of that.

I've seen those 28's with what looks like artillery barrels on 'em.  Kinda defeats the whole idea of a 28. If your bbl. is by TOTW get a rifled bbl. & get some use out of it.   .....Tom

Is it time to ship you my stock?
For some reason I was thinking you wouldn't be around this month, but maybe I misunderstood.
In fact, I was surprised to see you working on this little gun, thought you would be gone the whole month of July, but if you're going to be around I'll get it in the mail.

That's all I'm going to say before I stick my foot in my mouth again!

Ordered up Chambers lock--finally.  Be here next week.  Track of wolf is kind enough to print full scale pic's of their gun parts in the catalog,   soooo! with some detailed measurements (read 10 times) I laid out the lock location & inlet the tgr/plate & old original brass guard into the stock, giving the sear to tgr pivot distance 5/16".  Should make a nice lite pull. bout it again until lock gets here.

Is that how you spell it ? ar-tiest ? always wondered about that.  Before I got hooked on 3D sculpture (guns) I used to do a little oil painting.  Like this.     ......Tom
