New rifle

Finally got my new Mountain Rifle. USA made, ANIB. .50cal.

Now, I need to try and find some caps and black powder. Just moved back to Idaho from Alaska and I had to sell out most of my stuff before I moved. Went to Sportsmans yesterday and they were out of No. 11 caps and they don't stock powder I believe. Gun Show tomorrow in Nampa. Hopefully someone will have some. If not, I'll start searching stores in and around Boise next week. Got to get it (and my old MR) working before deer season!

Thanks guys. I've been looking for this one for a long time. I either paid too much for it or bought it too early! But, I finally have it. I have another one, but it doesn't say "Made in the USA" on it.

It was a stressful buy. The seller sent it to an old Alaska address that was in my profile on GB even though the address on the envelope and the USPS money order was my new Idaho address. It went to the old address in AK, forwarded to a newer address in AK, then to Boise. Thank goodness the USPS forwarded it! And, thank goodness he packed it safely. Three weeks in transit and I was pulling my hair out. But, it arrived safe and sound.

Now I think I will customize my old MR with some tiger-striping and new stock finish. One to target shoot and one to hunt with.

Have you tried Cliff's?  Not too far if you are somewhere in or around Boise.

Try to "hook up" with other black powder, traditional muzzle-loader shooters.  They can possibly give you some "short-cuts" to finding caps and real black powder which definitely shoots best in your traditional rifle.

There may be a black powder shooting club locally... "sniff" around, talk to guys in the gun stores or at the shooting range if there is one locally... there's almost SURE to be a local black powder club or one in a nearby town that has some fellas of mutual interest (black powder shooting) near you.

You're about to have a lotta FUN finding out what loads work in your new rifle to give you the greatest accuracy which is the "secret" to both successful target shooting as well as hunting.  One thing is for SURE... anything you decide to do with traditional black powder shooting is a lotta fun and enjoyment... and nuthin' smells better than a big cloud of smoke from a muzzle-loader.
