Finally took the time to hone in my .36 and must say its as accurate as my Pedersoli,maybe more so. I only messed with two charges and I wanted a strong hunting load that still had a tight group. Four ,three shot groups off the bench.
35g.3F gave me a spread of 1.9",not bad but not "skwerl great".
Bumped the load to 40g.,3F and kept the three shot groups to .750" or less and all groups of that load had two holes touching in each group of three.
I am going to go with that until something changes. It is a new gun so the barrel may give different results after more shooting.
In a couple of weeks, a friend and I will be doing a day trek in period fashion. He with a fusil because there are turkey where we are going. And I with this .36 as there are squirrels,rabbits and am told a few hogs possibly.
So I ask of the experienced hog hunters, will a head shot from this fairly stout load put down a pig? Say 30 yards or under?

A small pig, yes.  A full sized hog, not likely.  Hunting from a stand, probably safe.  Stalking hogs, I would want to carry a hefty back-up revolver pistol.

To the grasslands, provided it's not too dry. My friend has scouted out an area allready but I have yet to go there.

Hogs overran our deer lease in East Texas.  Saw a lot and shot some with Sharps 45-70, which I hand loaded with black powder.  I know my .54 GPR would take them down.  I have hunted deer in the Grasslands.  Haven't seen hogs there, but saw plenty of hog signs.  I would want to be elevated and not at ground level with hogs.  

On the other hand, many squirrels in the grasslands, but I don't know the designated squirrel seasons in Wise County.  Denton county has no closed season on squirrels but not that much public access to hunting areas.

That's the ticket.  Hunt squirrels.  Probably won't see a hog in daytime anyway.  I looked at the Texas Parks & Wildlife site.  Squirrels in Wise county now have no closed season and no limits.  I think that is a fairly recent change.

Not having anything smaller than a .45, I am still tempted to do some woods walking in the Grasslands myself, now that I see that Wise county has open season on squirrels.   Lots of open grasslands there, but a lot of the land is bottom land with lots of trees.  Area is limited to Muzzleloaders, shotguns, and archery.  But during deer season there are too many folks out there crashing through the woods with those modern MLs that they picked up just to take advantage of the cheap hunting.  I don't know how crowded the spring turkey season will be, though.

absolutely beautiful rifle, congrats!

i've killed a number of hogs, one close to 200# and they are Tough if you make a bad shot and hit the shield.  a .36 ball is just way too iffy on a good sized hog, but should cleanly dispatch a "breakfast sausage" piglet.  a .45 or .50 with a heavy lee REAL boolit would be best, imho.

roast pork anyone?
