Smooth rifle getting close!

:roll eyes  I'm going to aqua fortis, stain and oil finish it.
   Right now I have to finish a home remodel project, start track season (I'm the throw events coach at Point Park University in Pittsburgh, PA) and try finishing it in any spare time I have. It's Early Lancaster, .54 cal, 44"Colerain swamped smooth bbl C wgt. 13 3/4" pull; grade 4 curly maple stock. L&R classic lock Davis trigger. I could shoot it now, but NAH! I'll wait.

Looks good so far,... and I'm a fan of aqua fortis too.  
Does your smooth rifle have a rear sight?

Who did you get the basic gun from or did you make it from scratch?  I'll really enjoy seeing the finished project.

It will have some sort of rear sight, probaly removable on the tang. I have a design I've used on my muskets prior to this gun. The barrel is a 44", .54cal/28ga Colerain Swamped smooth bore; small parts are from a friends collection of parts as well as my own; trigger set and lock are from L&R; stock is a precarved Early Lancaster from Tiger Hunt Stocks; and my friend chris helped with the fitting patchbox cover and latch of his design. I built the rifle in 1994, I carved and inlaid on my rifle. The engraving was done by my great friend, Master Gunsmith, Horner and Engraver, the late Phillip Cravener of Latrobe,PA (southeastern PA). IMHO, .54 cal is a nice choice for a smooth rifle.

(I have, and shoot an old .56 Renegade smoothie, that ain't no where nice & pretty like yours, but I'm impressed with all it will do.)

i have a jackie brown long gun  to work on (when i can find the time!), a "barn" or "poor boy" smoothbore, 20ga/.62 colerain 42" OTR barrel, L&R queen anne lock, plain maple stock, iron furniture, no muzzle cap or stock entry pipe or butt plate.  a simple simon, meat and defense machine for the frontier farmer/homesteader.
