Hank Stopped For A Visit
« on: May 28, 2017, 01:07:54 PM »
Hello all, Hank in WV dropped by this weekend for a few days (while on his motorcycle trip) for a visit. We had a good visit and took in some of the local sites. Ft. Robinson State Park, and our big adventure to the Fur Trade Museum over in Chadron, Nebraska. We spent quite a bit of time enjoying the displays of muzzle loading firearms and other items of interest.

It was good times for sure!  :hairy

Thanks for stopping Hank, it was a pleasure to meet you, and grandson Lucas says to tell you, "hi, and he misses you!"  :shake

Darn if that Hank don't get around!  Maybe Uncle Russ will show him some walleye while he's there.

So is he riding a Triumph, or just wearing the sweatshirt?  Inquiring minds need to know!   :laffing

Don't know about the walleye Al, but I do believe he has some kind of entertainment planned. Just wearing the shirt WH. Got a couple of 60's era Triumphs at home. I think they are a little too old for this trip. I'm getting pretty close. I'm riding a BMW on this trip.

Looking forward to ya getting here my friend....

Short story on Hank's Bike for brother Al;
The last time Hank came to visit we put the bike in the garage. I have a Black Lab that was extremely curious, for whatever reason, about that particular bike.
Perhaps it was the flaring with the location of the headlights that gave it that "look", but anyway, my Black Lab considered it was in her garage to do something bad wrong, so she kept a close eye on it, a wide sweep with the hair on her neck standing up, and a low rumble in her throat, she finally got close enough to "smell" it.....it must've passed the smell test because she no longer growled, the hair on her neck relaxed, but she definitely kept a close eye on that "thing".... lol

Yep Hank, the first night in town we will have Dancing Maidens, Great whiskey, and lots of food & drink, and, if memory serves me right, all that is on Direct TV, channel 324.... :P

After we rest up a bit from all that activity, we will be heading to the Range to burn some powder.
Got a couple of guns I've been working on that need to be put on paper, and if I can talk Joe out of some more targets, we can shoot our May Targets for the Postal Match, and you can have your choice of guns from .45 to .69 cal.....after we get everything on paper.  :bl th up

BTW; Bring a "Sunbrella for two" today is pushing the 95 degree mark. Summer arrived almost overnight and it came in with a vengeance!  Dadburn it's hot!!!

That's odd Russ, Al had that same reaction when he first saw my bike. Only thing is, I don't think it passed his smell test.
Shooting the postal targets sounds good. Trouble is, my scores are never as good when there are witnesses.
Rode over Beartooth Pass today where it was 39". Not sure your weather and I are going to get along.

That's it Al, you nailed it.
That bike "stares" at ya, that must've been the reason my Dog felt such a strong urge to guard the garage.
I got some pictures from Hank yesterday, that boy is in some kinda snow crossing Bear Tooth Pass.
Looking across the windshied of the BMW in this picture....
Thankfully, our weather here in the Columbia Basin is "supposed" to cool off in the next few days.

I'm getting pretty close. I'm riding a BMW on this trip.

When I got to the University of Alaska in Fairbanks in 1966 there was a guy living in a BMW crate on campus.  I don't remember his name.  He had ridden a Beemer from as far south in South America as you could get at the time, up as far the road went North in Alaska.  The Pan America Highway was under construction at the time and I guess it was quite an adventure.  He was robbed several times along the way, parts of the road weren't built yet, and the Trans-Alaska pipeline haul road wasn't even on anyone's radar yet; the furthest North he could get was the Yukon River at the end of the Steese Highway.  If I recall the story correctly, BMW traded his used bike for a brand new one so they could have it in their museum.  He stayed in the crate they shipped it in until after the snow started flying, then one day he was gone.  Never heard anything more about him.

Hank made it in yesterday around noon.....apparently he had called me about an hour so out but I missed his call.
After pleasantries we retired to the back deck, and proceeded to solve all the problems this old world is plagued with, both politically and economically.....so you guys can rest easy now, we got it all figured out.

I am going to teach Hank "Paper Patchin".
I have built a "race" gun in the last six or eight months, and with a little luck we will get to shoot it while Hank is here.
We discussed the ins & outs of the Greenhill Formula, and Hank now believes it's possible the we could teach the Mathematicians, and Ballisticians a thing or two about using Black Powder and shooting Muzzleloaders, but then again, maybe not so much.  :P

The weather has changed dramatically here in the past couple of days, and that is a good thing.
It has gone from a high well in 90's, to a very pleasant 54 this morning with light rain, with a bit of thunder in the distance.
If we don't get rained out we likely make it to the range, if this "drizzle" continues I can see us spending an afternoon casting, both round ball and conical, so I can get Hank into Paper Patching.....of course he will never use this new found knowledge because he shoots strictly PRB, as most traditionalist do....and that's just great with me too!

We also hope to get both our May and June targets shot while Hank is here and get 'em off to Joe.
Whatever else happens we will most certainly get to do some shooting, whether testing guns, or shooting our targets, we will be shooting.

After today Hank and I will be left on our own, the rest of the family are running away from home... :laffing
Actually their trip to the "other side of the Mountain" has been planned for some time, as one of the great grandbabies has their first birthday, and I have to assume that such things are very important to moms, grandmothers, aunts and uncles....I somehow don't get the importance of all the commotion, so I just keep my mouth shut and stay out of everyone's way while looking forward to that time alone.
