Wondering if anyone has run across or of those kits and what they might be worth ?
Not sure of the cal as yet , waiting to get off shift for days off to unwrap the barrel to check cal stamp. But it is a complete as new kit including paper work.
Haven't had much luck finding anything online other then companies history, not even an image of one still in kit form.

One of the better investments I have made is The Blue Book of Modern Black Powder Arms.  Full of information on 20th Century black powder rifles and pistols.  Lots of interesting reading as well, backgrounds on various guns, etc. Mowrey Gun Works, Inc.
Prevous manufacturer and distributor located in Waldren, IN until 2006.  Previously manufactured in Saginaw, TX.  Previously distributed exclusively by Mountain State Muzzle Loaders Supplies, Inc.
1:30" twist rifling was designed specifically to stabilize conical bullets.
The kit guns came in four different models:  The Plains Rifle, The Rocky Mountain Hunter, The Silhouette Rifle and the Squirrel Rifle.  These were only available in kit form.  And they were discontinued in 2006.
Plains Rifle - .50 or .54 Caliber Last MSR (Manufacturer's Suggested Retail) = $345
Rocky Mountain Hunter .50 or .54 cal  Last MSR = $345
Silhouette Rifle - .40 Caliber  Last MSR = $345
Squirrel Rifle - .32, .36 or .45 caliber last MSR = $345

There was a bit more printed under General Information, but I did not include it.  Not feeling much like a clerk/typist this AM.

They also produced an underhammer design (two models) and a 12 ga and a 28 ga shotgun as well.  Last MSR on both shotguns was $350.

That ought to give you a start.  Hope it helps.  This is a 2009 edition of the book, so details might not be current, especially prices.

I never knew Mowrey's could be had in kit form!  However, the Olney, TX-made guns command higher prices (better workmanship) than those made elsewhere.  Btw, the rifles are accurate.

The Texas Mowrey's have a very good reputation.  Deer Creek in Waldron was putting them out until (going by memory here) about 8-10 years ago, in kit form.  Also the CVA Mountain Rifle, renamed the Deer Creek Rifle or Northwest Rifle.  They had bought out the parts from CVA when they dropped that model; likewise they sold the H&A Underhammer which they took over from Numrich.  They also bought the barrel making machinery and blanks from Douglas Barrels when that company dropped their muzzleloader line.  Their kits were sold with the barrels made in house, and I have read that they were as good as GM barrels.

Deer Creek still has lots of parts if you need some.  They don't show on the web site - you need to call them and ask what they have.

And again thanks for the good info.
I read on some other forums that deer creek might still have parts. That and the springs could use some stress relieving ( float on melted lead in tinfoil for 15 minutes) due to being brittle.

Finally got home to check it out.
Barrel is 45 cal in a 1 in 60 twist ( was hoping for either a 36cal or a 54cal barrel )
Serial number 7731
Paper work saying that it was made in Texas, and the news paper that was wrapped around the brass forestock is dated Dec 1977.
Even had an extra main spring in the parts bag.

Don't know much about the Mowrey personally, but I have seen quite a few of them at different ranges in the Southwest..
I've never shot one, but shooters I have known that own them tell me that all of the Mowrey Rifles are good shooters.

I somehow knew there were several styles at one time, as was mentioned previously.
And if I can remember correctly, there was one particular model that stood out, and was highly praised, and Mowery Owners were always on the look out for one, but I can't remember the model, or the details why is was in so much demand....
It could have well been the one made in Texas, but I just can't remember for sure.

Started to prefit the frame , butt to the stock. Went looking for some Plum Browning, but might have to settle on bluing the barrel for now. Will have to take a trip to the city to get some round ball till I can secure a mold to cast from.

That's going to be one lovely piece!  The stock sure looks pretty contrasting with the brass.  I'm jealous! :toast
