During the first part of the nineteenth century, the fur trade, the traders were dispensing “high wine” or
“Indian rum” (a diluted alcohol) The Fur Co.s did ship Actual WINE to their "houses,posts,Ft,s etc" For consumption by the clerks & above
the 2 most often listed are ---

Madeira Wine
PW
Port Wine
Note : Actual Wine was an important ++ with those of "clerk status & above"
