Very important question!,
« on: March 03, 2021, 09:25:04 AM »
Now a question that has arisen that may make or break your whole life as a muzzleloader, this is important so do not ignore this post!
On the rear sight many of them have a concave cut [ Invalid Attachment ]  [ Invalid Attachment ]
] I have researched this greatly, there are as many my way as there are the wrong way,my way is away from me ( I have my reasons) but, they are right. So ,how do you place the concave cut ,to the shooter ,or to the muzzle?

The "cut-out" faces forward, and is designed to reduce the possibility of glare (from the sun) when you're sighting through the sight's notch.  :bl th up

Exactly my thoughts , also the “tail or feather can reflect light if pointing toward the shooter ,as I was researching elsewhere many don’t know some companies even place them wrong ( not my experience some one else’s) I feel better now ,I would not want to be disqualified at a shoot by some overzealous judge,” Mister, your out...backwards sight...out!!Lol.oh by the way mine is the one with a white back round on my Lyman .

Me too.  That will give me a good excuse for poor shooting performances -- sights are on backwards.   :Doh! :lol sign

.

Be careful, messing around with backward sights, since you might end up with something like this.

The concave goes forward away from the eye. It allows for the forward image to be seen better. Sights for my later period single shot rifles that have these disk sights the larger opening is forward. And from a very much later period where many of us battled in far away lands the front of the rear sight is open more. I hope this helps.

Just checked all my MLs and yes the concave or V notch is forward looking. WHEW! Didn't want to go back to the range with my skivvies on backwards....
