Ray I've been in Texas since 1986 I've never heard that one...
Interesting...I just always figured it was a South Texas saying...but would love to find out its origin.
Got to say I am enjoying seeing some of these expressions. I know there are a ton of them out there.
Another unique saying came from an old lady who lived on the property next to our when we moved onto a farm in the mountains of Virginia. She had lived a hard scrabble life and was tougher than seasoned oak.
One example: when she was a young teen she had her tonsils removed with no anesthesia or pain meds...
Another time she was crossing her field to visit us when she was charged by a bull. Since she was crippled in one foot (the one on which she always wore a black rubber boot) she stopped and faced the bull. When he reached her she hit him between the eyes as hard as she could with her stock cane. According to her, the bull went to his knees...and she proceeded on her way to visit us...
A favorite expression of hers which I have never heard anywhere else; "Dead as four o'clock."
