70" Bow I Made 8 years Ago
« on: July 20, 2020, 12:03:19 PM »
I made this 70" 48# @ 28 Maple Backed Birch Bow at least 8 or so years ago, and never really worked with it - but rather stored it in my basement with my other traditional wood longbows and decided it would be a good morning for some archery shooting on my home Range (which you can see I need to tidy things up some...

Anyway, this was my 3rd "such" group of three arrows (all bunched like this group) in the target from 15 yards... I'd say it's a keeper for sure! (You gotta love that "hide glue")

That's a pretty bow!  And, a great group to boot.  Does that have an arrow shelf, or are you shooting off the knuckle?  I can't tell for sure in the photograph.

Thanks Maven & Kees  :shake

Kees,

I shoot off the knuckle... Only one of my Traditional wood bows has a shelf, (but this one doesn't) though sometimes I think it would be nice maybe in'letting and leather wrapping a little piece of deer antler for a shelf,,, but I get over the idea of it pretty quick... lol!!!  :)

I'd be arrow shopping after that session. I'd hit that broken brick with all three shots. :Doh!

Not if you aimed at it like I do...  :lol sign :toast :shake

I did spend this afternoon cleaning up the target area and trimming the hedges - so it looks a whole lot better now... Hank, you remember Lucas from your visit - anyway he didn't want me to throw away his plastic bottles he was using as BB Gun Rifle targets, but I finally convinced him I had more... Yes, I had to show him...  :bl th up

Also I have to come clean,,, that brick is a piece of 2-1/2 or 3 inch yellow styrofoam a builder gave me sometime back... I think they use it when pouring concrete basement walls...

He'll be 11 years old on August 5th... Yes he's sprouting right up and still has a ton of energy and still likes hanging out with me... Have to admit, I'm pretty beat at the end of the day - but I wouldn't change one minute of it.  He's a good kid with a big heart! :hairy

Thanks Rondo  :shake

I haven't shot much bow-n-arrow the last couple of years. No particular reason I can think of, but it seems like my interest in it is back once again... It saves on flint, caps, powder and lead. And it is enjoyable... :hairy

Time passes quicker then we think. Before you know it (and seems before I realized it) - my grandson will be 11 on August 5th... Not to far off from being a teenager. I guarantee, we grand parents are sure lucky 'cause those grand kids fill a void that's left after our kids grow up and are out on their own...

I know none of us would trade that second time around with the grand kids for anything...  :shake

Joe, after looking at that picture again I got to thinking.
I just may have the brother to that bow that YOU made years ago.
70", 48# at 28" draw, yep I had to look to refresh the old memory but that's what she is.
Nice Bow for back yard practice and although I've never hunted with this bow I would not hesitate one minute.
Joe does excellent work on his stick bows, but the USPS was not so kind to him on the 1st go around, but the next bow came in a PVC Pipe that looked quite similar to a Bazooka.....I think the Postman was afraid of this one because he handled it like it was made of glass.... :bow
It's the many things we don't do that totally sets us apart.

It could be Russ, I was on that birch/maple combination kick... I haven't built a bow in a long time.  I do recall the Post Office breaking that first bow I sent you. They ran over it with a forklift if I recall correctly? PVC seemed like the route to go in shipping after that.  :shake
