All my trad muzzleloaders for 2021
« on: December 05, 2020, 12:07:44 PM »
"All"?  HAH!  Just the one and only one left, for pretty much all my 2021 *shooting* 'til I build a kit fowler, hopefully the new and forthcoming Kibler.

The current .62 fowler and accoutrements - still a bit more work to complete on the gun, however ...

Good looking rig there, Rob.
I think shining timies are awaiting you with that setup.
Hope the trade gun shoots as good as it looks.  And I agree with Joe on the progress you have made with it.

Most of what I did you can't see ...
  • Nikal lubed the breech plug and liner
  • Replaced the touch hole liner
  • Steel 0000 wooled inside the tube (lotsa bp residue)
  • Took the lock completely apart, de-rusted, honed the moving parts, oiled/greased, re-installed
  • Replaced the trigger guard screws (need to grind their heads a bit flatter)
  • Opened the bbl lug holes and lug mortises to allow for stock wood expansion (one bbl pin hole needs redrilling as it's right at the edge one one lug - will do so when the David Rase pin jig arrives, the last jig of his seems to have gotten lost in the shop  :o )
  • Silver soldered a nickel-silver front sight
  • Rather than fix a poorly made ramrod, I made 2 new ones
What's left is to add a lock side plate with a new and longer lock bolts, parts on the way from TOTW.  Then hope for a decent weather day and get in some shooting.  I hope this gun will get me through most of next year 'til I can do up a fowler kit.

Great job,  looked at some kibler kits online.
 Maybe in the future...
