New Points of Interest
« on: October 25, 2020, 10:12:10 PM »
.

After I finished my version of a Skean Dubh, I decided to make a couple more - with bone slab handles.

Even though the size wasn't specified, I ordered some bone slabs from Smokey Mountain Knife Works.

Well, it turned out that the slabs were a LOT shorter in length than I thought - so I added some Ebony to the Green River Ripper blade, and Walnut to the other one.

They're not quite finished, as I need to sand/finish the wood portions of the handles.

A man can never have too many blades...and that is especially true for Skean Dubhs...Good job on these...makes me want to do a couple new Skean Dubhs with some Antler Handles. Might just be a good Winter Project...if I can get off my nether parts and make it happen...

Those Green River Ripper blades are just so darned neat !!!  I love them.
And you had me when you said double edged boot knife, or words to that extent.  Always a soft spot for them.  I have a couple of blades in my drawer of projects to put off until someday rolls around, and that day will be rolling around soonly.  Or not at all.  Then I will sell them.  In all likelihood, they will be coming up for the auction block sooner than later.  We'll see.

Thanks for the kind words, folks - I surely appreciate them !   :toast

When I finish these, my next project will be converting a Cold Steel Frontier Hawk into a more period-looking tomahawk, removing the paint and setscrew, reshaping the head, messing with the handle, etc, etc.

Pictures please once you start making progress.  I'd love to hear you reasoning for what you do to it.
I too have a Cold Steel frontier hawk that needs some period personality.
The trouble with doing things right the first time is no one realizes how hard it was.
Often, however, the following is more applicable.
I stand corrected, a position somewhat painful to achieve, but once there, is quite satisfying.

A straight-edged pruner replacement blade should make a decent patch knife with a little grinding for a tang & some handle material ( jes' sayin' )
