As usual I have several projects in the works. However, I had a rotator cuff surgery on the 30th and that realy put the halt to things for several weeks. Knowing this was going to be the case, I did jump into another rabbit hole ive been eyeing over a yr. Spoon carving. I like old tools and things you can do with them and after viewing and joining a fb spoon carving group, I decided to try n knock out a spoon before my surgery date.
I had recieved a couple pcs of cherry that was supposed to be pistol blanks in a trade but they were skinnier than they were suposed to be so I thought, what the heck, see if I can cobble a spoon out of it. This is my second attempt at a spoon, so its clunky. I darkened it by cooking in the oven at 400 for 30 minutes and then while still hot, adding butcher block treatment 3-4x.
Allin all, it carved very nice and I'll continue down this little side venture. I see it as good side work, fitting in between larger projects.
