Availability of Flints
« on: January 08, 2021, 05:32:30 PM »
Just for the heck of it I went over to Track of the Wolf, and I was very surprised to see their "shortage" of Flints available.

I can't say as I ever recall a Flint shortage until now - but maybe it has happened before, and I just don't remember (or didn't need any at the time)... Not that I need any flints at this time, but I figured I check availability anyway.

Joe, was this just a curiosity thing or are you in need? I might have a few if needed.
Lord, make my words as sweet as honey for tomorrow I may have to eat them.  Amen

I was just checking on price increases, Bill... But I do thank you for asking.

I'm not in any real need of flints right now, but I do thank you for the kind thought.  :shake

Joe, I have no idea why but if there truely was a shortage, tow would be the first to be low imo. Maybe just for the reason they have ( possibly ) the largest customer base for bp related goods? But they are also the place that has consistant backprders, maybe for that same reason ,Idk , I wonder if other places are short like log cabin shop or mbs in idaho?

I only checked TOTW, but as said above, it was mainly just price checking...

I will say this, there are times in this "sport/hobby" that the winds of change in our country, seem to dictate supply in demand and pricing... I'll just leave it at that.  :shake

Now that is bizarre! I just ordered a dozen Tom Fuller flints and the tool to compress the coil mainspring on T-C locks, and they arrived last week, no problem.  I was surprised that, while they are advertised as Tom Fuller flints, the package had a different name (it's put away right now and I'm too lazy to dig it out to see who that is).

At the same time, when I was at Walmart last week the muzzle loader display of accoutrements was EMPTY, while just a couple of weeks before that it was full.  Now we had a ML deer season from January 2 - 6 which might account for this, but we have had that every year now and it's never hit the store with such an impact.  Since reloading materials for cartridge arms seems to be back ordered all over the place this may all be attributed to people starting to hunt during the Covid-19 pandemic; it sure is strange!

I'm pretty well set for flints and it'll be a good while before I'll have to start looking again.  BUT, with so many people out of work, sick, out of business and having to stay home the supply chain is rickety and shortages are bound to occur.  Remember toilet paper?

The only flints I can see here are RMC four-packs, and they are out of stock....   ;banghead;

Wish Rich Pierce would start making them again!  I still have a couple dozen of his & I'm NOT letting them go away!  :laffing
