Price of lead has sure gone up
« on: July 06, 2022, 02:51:38 PM »
I just placed an order at Seabrook Sinkers for 45 pounds of lead.  $104.95 or $2.33 per pound.
Whew, seems like it has doubled in just a bit over a year.  I think that was the last time I ordered any.  Granted, the price is freight prepaid, but still...
Oh well, I guess everything has been going up a lot, like percussion caps for $14.95 per 100, if you can find them.
Thanks, Brandon.

That it has, John. Time to start (or continue) scrounging lead, that's for sure! Sad thing is that (for whatever reason) price increases occur on products - they seldom (ever) go back to what they were prior to the increases... I'm just about one half step away from going back to my traditional Archery, and stop playing this never ending political BS game.

Fortunately,.... I have enough lead to last me the rest of my life.  :bl th up
I've also (pretty much) switched entirely to flintlocks since the price of percussion caps has gotten so danged ridiculous.  :bl th up

$$ has slowed me down, I had a friend gift me a 1/2 pack of old German #11 percussion caps but can't find any to buy locally.
Muskets ( Got hundreds of those caps)  and flinters for the time being .

Kevin,
Must have been a good friend for him to gift you the RWS caps.  They are the best.
Regarding the musket caps, I think MSM, Treso, etc. have conversion nipples for 1/4-28, 6x.75 mm, and 6x1 mm.  I always used them on my big bore rifles.  October Country should have them in stock.

.

It seems that everything has gotten more costly - I can remember paying $0.14 for a loaf of bread & $0.15/gallon for gas, back when I returned from the exotic Southeast Asian vacation my Uncle Sam gave me.......  :toast

Right on as they say here.
I've thinking about switching my TC 54 to a musket nipple .
Probably should since I aint too good with that flinter.

You made me look - sure enough, last time I checked Rotometals you could get pure lead for $1.50/lb shipped. Now it's $2.31/lb. I'm with the rest of you, not shooting much any more and when I do it's with flintlocks. At this rate I've got a lifetime supply of everything.

I should check with out local scrap dealer.  Last year I got 50# of lead at $1 per pound.  I'll bet it's up there now!

I saw a video (YouTube) one time about a guy shooting a gong mounted inside a tire (on chains) to capture the lead he shot at the gong inside the tire. That might be one option to recover lead... I guess it's time to make a trip down Range to the backstop berm and pan / screen, for lead. I've sent  enough in that direction over the years.
