new to me pistol, a question ?

Didnt want to add to my OP so...

 spent some time with the lyman yesterday and for the life of me, i cannot get the lock plate screw out.
 slot screw, of course, countersunk, pretty marred and frigged up due to various screwdrivers used over the years i imagine.
  I'd like to clean the lock so this screw is coming out one way or another.  I understand applying heat with a solder iron is an option, sparyed it with PB blaster to let it soak.
 
 The question ?  where can i find a replacement screw for this one, once i most likely destroy the existing one. i see that the GPR and trade rifle share the same screw as the GPP.

anyone know the size of this screw.

 Ive done the cursory internet searches w/o luck.

I'm pretty sure you'll find it is metric once you get it out.

If/when you do get it out, you might take the screw to a hardware store to see if they can match it.

Last resort would be to try finding someone who does Lyman warranty work. (and they're probably real hard to find these days )

Just SWAG's (Scientific Wise A$$ Guesses) but Log Cabin used to carry all the parts and pieces for Thompson Center, maybe they do for Lyman as well?  You might call Lyman and see if they can tell you the size.  Track or Dixie might be able to supply the screw.  You might be able to take the screw into CdA and go to the place on 4th Street (Brack's Fasteners) if it is still there.  They could probably measure it as well.  And there is always Brownell's.
If you have a drill press, I think that would be the best way to remove the screw.  Put a screw driver bit into the chuck, mount the pistol in a vise, bring the chuck down to where the bit mates with the screw head and turn the chuck while maintaining pressure.  It just might work.

 I'll give the drill press idea a try, letting some penetrating oil work for awhile first.
 Once the screws out I'll decide how to proceed.

Kevin, if R&R or a replacement screw doesn't work out, you may want to consider buying a like length screw from a real hardware store, and chasing the old screw hole's threads with a tap the same size as the replacement screw.

Any way it's done,  it might be a good idea to apply a bit of anti-seize compound to the screw threads upon re-installation.

Liquid Wrench use to be a dependable product. It sound to me that it is either rusted into the threads, or someone used Lock-Tite on the threads... Just a guess...

Rusted you are right!.
 So I took the barrel off in prep to attack the screw head and I notice the the shaft of the screw is visible in the barrel channel

 Just so happened a small snub nose vise grip fits right in there and viola out came the screw.

 Not to damaged so I may be able to save the screw . I'll still check the hardware store for a match.
  Lock looks in good shape, just some TLC needed.

Happy to hear you got it out, Kevin. 

Side Note; If you can find a nut for this screw - you may be able to save it by using liquid wrench - by running the nut over the screw threads a bit at a time and backing it off with a wire brush cleaning... If you can get the screw cleaned up / then clean it with alcohol and blue it. Also, you can re' dress the screw head slot.

Yep pretty much my plans.
 No luck at any hardware stores, everything phillips heads.
 Did find out its a 4mm.

I replaced the metric lock screw on the Hodgepodge rifle with a SAE thread screw from Track of the Wolf.  I had to drill & tap the hole in the lock plate but it worked out well.  Thinking about it, I may just have run the roper tap in without drilling, now that I think about it.  Glad to see that you got it out okay.
