This is a Richard Miller .50 cal that I stumbled upon on Gun Broker a few months ago. The seller wasn’t asking much more for it than most guys are pricing their finished Kibler kits at.

That's drop dead gorgeous. Do you use it or is it a gun for only display purposes?

I purchased this guy with every intention of shooting it. I took it out to a club shoot a couple months ago with the assumption that it was at least roughly sighted in—nope! I believe windage to be right on, but I appeared to be consistently low. The issue with filing down the front sight is that it also has that acid-etched finish, and it’s unlikely that I’ll be able to match the original finish after making alterations. Then again, what’s the point of having a rifle that you can’t (accurately) shoot?

How about the rear sight?  Can you drift it out and install a higher one, saving the original for if you ever decide to return it to the state you bought it in?

That’s a good idea! I should be able to drift the rear sight out and replace it with a higher one without any permanent modifications. Keeping the original sight for potential restoration down the road is definitely the way to go. Thanks for the suggestion, Kees—I’ll look into getting a higher rear sight that fits.
