I met a guy at the gun show last week that has a repro Harpers Ferry for $200. Yea or nay. I don't have a flinter yet, but do have an original 1863 Springfield.

I have a harper's ferry 1803...made by Navy Arms. For 200 bucks....if it is in good shape, that is one heck of a buy. Now.....I'm guessing there are harper's ferrys around by several different makers..as well as perhaps being in different calibers. Mine is a .58. I have heard of some that were in .53. Not sure if that is actually so however. I will say this....at least with mine...they take some time to get used to...to find out just what diet it likes. Also, mine is not a light rifle. I believe mine weighs 9 1/2 pounds...but....it is built like a tank and with a heavy load it is a sweet shooting gun. I see where Dixon's has them for $995.00. I dunno..that seems a bit steep to me.

Thanks everyone. I thought that sounded like a pretty good deal. The guy was set up beside me at the gunshow. I got his card. He sid he has several MLs he'd sell. My impression of the guy is he doesn't care if he sells anything or not, but he bought plenty of stuff. Well, time to save up the "mad money" again.

I've got the EuroArms 1803 Harpers Ferry. They sell for about $1000 from Dixie. It's a 54 with shallow rifleing. Shoots good with not too heavy loads. I've shot it with 85 grs of FFFg Goex accurately. I picked it up at a pawn shop in NC a few years ago for $165 unfired, the guy ddn't even know what it was. The frizzen sparks very good and doesn't eat flints. If it's a EuroArms, I would recommend it. I'm not familiar with any other manufactures. Like has been said, it's probably worth $200 just for the parts. JMHO

I've bought a gun with H. FERRY stamped on it, waiting for it to cross the pond...

It looks like a Lone Star, diecast, kiddies cap gun by Mattel but I am told it shoots good

Dad has a Harper's Ferry orginial that was converted from flint to percussion - but has some pieces missing.

Would parts from the Navy Arms version fit to at least make the original look more complete?

No, well, not yet. But I know where it is.  I keep finding too many other things, like the Hopkins & Allen underhammer .32 that I still need to come up with a hunnert bucks to pick it up.
