This quarter's pubication is a delight and has a large quantity of full color plates of paintings and some b&w photos of Voyageurs.  Yes, actual photographs!   The Museum has recentluy opened a new section dedicated to the Voyageur and is a wonderful source of documented information.

Anyone interested in the Fur Trade in N. America from the first white men arriving to the present day is missing some serious prime source data and a whole lot of fun if he (or she)  isn't a member of the Museum of the Fur Trade and the Museum Association of the American Frontier.   Great sources and only fifteen bucks a year for both, not each.

The photos show some actual clothing, arms and equipment as well as written documentation of the period.  Any of us could profit from this issue.

I've been a long time member of the Museum of the Fur Trade, and this latest issue (The Voyageurs) is a good one.  On page 9 is a picture of a 36' canoe (hanging from the ceiling)  that is on display right now.  You really get a good feel for what the Voyageurs were using when you're standing under this thing - looking up at it.

Truly a big (the largest used) canoe for the Montreal-Great Lakes run.  Six to fourteen man crew and capable of 4 ton loading; cargo & crew, passangers, rations, and equipment.

I've been over twice to study this new display, and it's a good one!

Being a native Nebraskan and lifelong student of history, I make it out to TMOTFT at least once a year.  The collections are amazing & are added to constantly.  James Hanson and Gail Potter are a team to be reckoned with in their knowledge of all facets of the fur trade.  My wife and I are patrons & donate yearly to the endeavor......it's a gem among the museums that I never tire of visiting!
