Title: Sword, Hawk or Hatchet

For those that do a militia/milice personna, do you carry a sword, a hawk or a hatchet?

I carry a hawk; French Trade style..

Milice= tomahawk. It was provided by the King.

Militia= Depends. Any of the 3 qualified under the laws. The sword being the best weapon, but least versitile.

Hawk unless I am doing British military as I am a sergeant, and they carried their swords even through the AWI..., it's part of the rank along with the sash with the center stripe.  So even if the lads omit theirs, I have to keep mine.  I know at one point the Highland units omitted their back swords for woods combat.

The original act establishing the New Jersey frontier guard called for a cutlass or hatchet. See signature line.
