Title: Highlander History in French & Indian War
Post by: Oldetexian on May 05, 2019, 06:59:52 PM
Thinking about possibly adopting a new persona for myself I am currently reading two interesting books on the French & Indian War. The first is Sons of the Mountains:The Highland Regiments of the French & Indian War, 1756-1767.Written by Ian Macpherson McCulloch, it is the history of the three Scottish Highland regiments that were deployed here in North America during the war. I am about half way through it and am enjoying it. Military history is always a good read, especially if it's about the F&I time period.

The 42nd (Black Watch), 77th (Montgomery's), and the 78th (Fraser's) regiments all took part in some of the bloodiest battles in the war and played a significant, if not critical, role in the British victory. These three regiments also helped transform the image of Scottish Highlanders from Jacobite rebels to Imperial heroes.

What has surprised me so far is that the history is not just informative but is also an easy read. This is a book that should be on the reading list of anyone interested in the pre Revolutionary War period.

Good information.  Since Carol is a Frasier I just copied that over and sent it to our son.  Thanks for posting it!

I would like very much to find that book for my Kindel, since I'm still laid up a bit.

Sounds very interesting. I never knew any Highlander Regiments fighting here in North America.

Hey Russ. Sorry to hear you're doing a wee poorly. Nothin' serious I hope.

Nothing real bad Ray, I took a little tumble off a step-ladder back on my birthday. I didn't think much about it until the next day when I could hardly get out of bed.
Turned out to be more serious than I had thought but I'm on the road to recovery and life is good!   :bow :bow

Glad to hear it's nothing too serious. I think you might have a couple years on me, but I am already noticing that all the little aches and especially the bigguns take a mite longer to go away. I ain't complaining, mind ya, such observing that I am no longer set up fur life in the fast lane. Slow and steady is my new game (and some days I ain't all that sure 'bout the steady part...lol).

Anyway, take care of yourself. It's getting harder to find spare parts every day...
