Title: A Scottish Highlander's Autobiography

Another interesting read concerning the F&I War is the autobiography of Robert Kirkwood. He served with both the 42nd and 77th regiments during the war, and his first person account of his trials and tribulations makes fascinating reading.

His story, entitled Through So Many Dangers tells of his capture and adoption by Indians his harrowing escape, his time serving with Roger's Rangers and more. Typical of many 18th century authors Kirkwood "borrowed" of other sources to pad his story, but this autobiography clearly delineates those passages. But the important point is that this is the firsthand account of a regular Highland soldier's experiences during his time in America.

Since personal narratives of private soldiers during the F&I War are rare,  Through So Many Dangers is an excellent read, especially for those of us attempting to create a persona of this era.
