Title: HEAT!
Post by: Winter Hawk on July 28, 2025, 09:11:23 PM
So how is everyone doing?  It's been hotter than I am used to!  I had some lawn mower parts on order which arrived this morning and have been installed, the poor old thing is running better than it has in a long time.  I figured to get the grass back down to a civilized height after dinner when it should/might be cooler.  Well, that part worked okay, it cooled down and then the thunderstorm hit and the yard is sopping.  I haven't looked in the basement in a couple of days but I bet it needs pumping out again also.  Enervating!  I was going to bake cookies for my Sweetie this afternoon, but was too lethargic to do even that.  Thank goodness for air conditioning!

I feel your pain! The heat index has been in the triple digits and no relief in sight. We have high heat and humidity here in south MS, but it has been over the top this year so far.

I sure do feel for you fellows.  Keeping hydrated is the most important thing you can do, and wear a hat as well.
But, here on the foggy west coast, we are in the 50's and 60's this week.
Had to put on a coat to go for my walk this AM.

Sure, rub it in. I was raised in the central valley and during some week in mid summer, I'll go stay with my cousin in the bay area (San Pablo). I'd be freezing as the central valley was 100 or more degrees and the fog in the bay area just cut to the bone. Samuel Clemens aka Mark Twain said the worse winter he ever spent was July 3rd and 4th in San Francisco. The man knew what he was talking about.

Yep, I went to boot camp in Sand Diego straight out of high school after having lived 12 years in Hawaii (with the 6 years before that in what is now Indonesia).  I like to froze in the fog with 0400 reveille!  Then I was sent to Treasure island NTC for electronics school, in the middle of San Fransisco Bay.  I learned to love my wool blues and peacoat!

Well it's 10pm and still 82* and 83% humidity. Ugh. I don't think my attic exhaust fan has shut off since early June. Finally supposed to break on Fri.

But it's a dry heat. :lol sign
I think humidity is in the single digits or low teens maybe
Good time of year for indoor things.

Before the recent "cold" snap, highs had only reached 102 (with 75% humidity).  Shop temps peaked at 86 (with 85%) humidity.  ARGH, what that does to my wood stash!  By January ambient humidity in there will be in the high-single-digits to low teens.  I've been trying to find time to figure out installation of a pellet stove out there, just haven't been sufficiently inspired for some reason. . . can AC be far behind?

Temps at work have been unreal at times. For some reason I hung a thermometer on the forklift.  Last week while working out on the parking lot I glanced over and saw the air temp on the blacktop was just over 120.  AC went out in the backroom, and to bring freight in and out you have to open the doors.  Humidity was so high a couple times when I drove the fork inside my glasses would fog up.  AC is fixed now, so the glasses fog when I go outside.

But at least we have good honest wind.  Temps around 90-100 with high humidity are much more bearable with a 20-30 mph breeze.

Found a bunch of birdseye maple in the stash.  I can sorta remember accumulating this but can't recall what I had in mind for it.  Pondering if I've ever seen birdseye used on original horns.  I can't think of any; none in my notes of my museum and collection visits.

It's a bit cooler (and drier) here.  Friday was in the high 70s, yesterday was in the mid 80s, today looks like the lower 80s.
