Whipped up a small batch this morning. Soaked some patches. Drying patches. Seems a bit thick.
Anxious to try em out when the weather improves.
Thanks Winter Hawk.

Haven't started to blow down the barrel on my muzzleloader after 40 years of shooting it. Don't plan on starting now. Everything works fine the way I have been doing it . But for those who feel they need to do it, whatever floats your boat.

Kevin, thanks so much for the pictures. I sincerely hope you can return and stay for 10 days also. During this storm, it's really nice to look at those pictures because there isn't much in the line of muzzleloading stuff for me to do right now. So I'm enjoying the pictures and posts on the forum right now. Come on guys send those posts and pictures so No Powder has some way to pass the time. The wife won't let me shoot my smokepole in the house.😢😪😭

People of the Times / 1/25/1839: Lone Star heraldry
« Last post by Craig Tx on January 25, 2026, 09:52:18 AM »
On this day in 1839, the Republic of Texas Congress adopted the Texas coat of arms -- a white star of five points on an azure ground encircled by olive and live oak branches.

The national seal bore these arms encircled by the words Republic of Texas. In 1845 the designation was altered from Republic to State.

Well that's good question, I don't know to be honest.
The weather was and still is hot, 85* yesterday.

 Here's a " cracker" in action
There is so much I Missed since I went with the whole family who mostly sat in a large community tent out of the sun while I ran all over the place looking for treasures. Felt like I had to move with purpose.
Having limited time made shopping hard since  the folks there were so anxious and willing to talk with ya about the era and the event you would often get into 30 minute conversations before ya knew it .
I can't wait to come back some day and do the whole 10 days.

Traditional Muzzleloaders for Reenactors / Re: Pedersoli 2nd Land Pattern Brown Bess Kit

Just a few images from my first Pede 2nd Land Bess kit build.

In that build, there was some wood tear out in the stock near the wrist grip that I filled in with epoxy that I colored with stain.

As usual, I pull the breech plug to anti-seize the threads and enlarge the channel drilled into its face by the touch hole drilling - this is all Optional.

After some slight amount of rasping and sanding proud stock wood, filing down the gates on the metal furniture, no stain was applied, I just wiped on some coats of Tru-Oil.

I made up a piece of vinyl tubing with a brass shell casing on one end and a hollow piece of antler on the other. Not very PC. So I think I?ll sew a piece of soft deer skin to cover the entire length. I really don?t blow down the muzzle much but I read where doing so may soften the powder residue.
