The Campfire / The Battle of Brooklyn - a commemorative event
« Last post by RobD on August 26, 2025, 08:47:29 PM »As a militia member of the NJ 3rd Regiment ("Jersey Blues") I had the honor to attend the 249th Battle of Brooklyn event that commemorates the 256 Maryland Militia lives lost out of the 400 Maryland regiment militia men that held off the British assault of Long Island in August of 1776. This was the first full scale battle of the Rev War, where some 30,000 Brit Regular and Hessian troops disembarked an estimated 300 man-of-warships off the Brooklyn coast to rout the meager 3,000 Continental militia troops.
Beautiful weather, great folks, and lots of crowd interractions - and the food and drink were both top notch.
In the pics below, I'm the old guy in the brown frock.
