Of the Gunfight at the OK Corral in Tombstone, AZ.

Wyatt Earp, his two brothers and Doc Holliday confronted the Ike Clanton gang.  Three members of Clanton's group were killed and Earp's brothers and Holliday were wounded.

I do not believe the Earp brothers were put on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of a further investigation.  That seems to have come into vogue a little more recently.  It also seems that "justice" was served up a little more sudden in them days.

John, I agree with you on that.  Leon Metz (remember him Uncle Russ) had this to say:
 
"Following the battle which lasted less that a minute, citizens loaded the dead into wagons and hauled them to the undertaker.  The wounded went home to recuperate, uncertain of what might happen next.  On Oct 29, three days after the battle, the Territory of Arizona lodged charges of premeditated murder against the Earps and Doc Holliday.  All of the Earps were dismissed as town marshals, and released from jail under $10,000 bond each.  A week later on the basis of "new evidence," Wyatt and Doc were jailed until Nov 20, at which time they were rereleased under the same bond."

Quite a time it was.  The events that took place later were something in their own right!  The Earps weren't ones to take lightly the shooting of their kin...

Indeed I do!

Although he was a "Old West" History Professor at the Univ. of NM in Las Cruces, he spent a great deal of time in El Paso.
I never missed an opportunity to hear Professor Metz speak at UTEP...he spoke with that certain thing that keeps you spell-bound in your seat for two hours at a time.

Leon, as he liked to be called by the Gun Club members, was also a top notch shooter with both a muzzleloader and a Colt C&B. A very likeable and intelligent person, indeed!
