Sweat Lodge

OK, I posted this question on another site and I guess the moderators thought it inappropriate because it's gone.  Maybe I'll have better luck here.  There used to be someone in NE Texas who held sweat lodge ceremonies.  I may be mistaken but I believe they were held on or near the Chief Bowles Memorial Park.  Does anyone here know anything about this?  I know there were some deaths a few years ago somewhere else but that was a New Age huckster who didn't know what he was doing.  I am interested in an authentic experience.

He just had one in Onaway Michigan, i understand he travel's to other areas.

I had just about given up.  I used to hear about a local tribe having sweat lodge events when I wasn't interested.  Then when I started looking for info I came up empty.  I'll look him up and see what I can find out.

If you're looking for an "authentic" Native American sweat lodge then you'd best be willing to invest the time getting to know people, their culture and their ways.  Even then you may never be invited to participate.  Some of these activities are part of their religious beliefs and are not open to curious outsiders.  Sorry but that's the case.  I've never met a person of Native descent, regardless of tribal affiliation, that's looking for converts.  That's definitely NOT what they're looking for.

We use to invite people to our sweats when I was younger

Last one I was in was in Canada and we did kind of a honorary one to mark
a metis treaty between the Blue Mountain Metis and Canadian Metis Council
it was a traditional one but open to visitors.

It was good to have others present for it to show people another aspect
of traditional culture

I am sure if you are supposed to be in one it will happen

Go willing to pray that's what there for
