I made a knapping hammer by cutting the blade off a screwdriver, re-grinding it to fit the cock screw and inserting the other end into a piece of copper bar.  I used JB Weld and also pinned it in.  Works like a charm.

I bought a dozen Tom Fuller flints for $19.95 from TOW. That's $1.66 ea. Pretty good price.

Joe, I don't see any fleas on that dog.
A piece of brass with a short handle is all you ever need for a quick "tune-up" on a contrary flint.
I believe that dog will hunt!

The attached is a scan of a printout I made on this subject from the old MLML site, which is no longer in existence, unfortunately.  The picture is not very clear, but the description should be usable.  It's a tool to use to knap the edge of the flint.  Mine is made from a nail and I use the handle of my knife to tap it.
