Ft. BOISE (HBC)

The Hudson's Bay Company operated Fort Boise until its abandonment. From 1835–1844, the fort was headed by the French-Canadian Francois Payette. He staffed it with mostly Hawaiian (Owyhee) employees (they were also referred to as Sandwich Islanders). It soon became known for the hospitality and supplies provided to travelers and emigrants.

"Francois Payette"! There’s a name Ive ran across recently.

Currently re-reading Dale Morgan’s epic book on Jedediah Smith. Payette mentioned several times as one of the Snake River expedition men. I believe he served under both Ross and Ogden. Correct??

Keep em coming Puffer! Mon ami!!!

Puffer, I know you have worked in law enforcement, but have you every been a teacher? If not, I, for one, think ya might have missed yur true calling. Your knowledge of NW history is both deep and delightful. No one would go to sleep in your history classes, my friend. You should do seminars or Youtube videos...I would be your first subscriber! :hairy
