Would like to put a sling on this old JUKAR.Should I place a piece of leather under the middle ramrod barrel to hold the front of the sling and use a button stud on the back ?

the only way it would hold is if the thimble is the type that screws  though the stock into the barrel ..
If it comes through the stock  into the thimble  it  will eventually break the stock .
The best way is to solder or dovetail a sling lug to the bottom of the barrel and them drill it so  that you can put a front sling swivel on it
