I took that new shotgun to the Texas Muzzle Loading Riffle Association's Fall shoot this past weekend.  I won a short range trap match with it.

I was shooting a 3 dram (82 grains 2-F) - 1 1/4 ounce load of #8 shot.

It looks like the shotgun is going to work out for me.

I have one like it but I got mine in about 1975. I took it to the corn field across the road today and got a couple honkers. I use 1-3/8 oz shot in a red pacific wad over 100 grains of GO powder (predecessor of GOEX).

I went to our cut corn field again today and the Navy Arms did its part again, it took 4 shots to get 3 birds.

Nice going.  What kind of shot are you using? Bismuth? tungsten?...

I use lead when I can but when required I use Bismuth. Ten pounds of Bismuth cost the same as my Navy Arms side by side did new!!! Mine is SN#300 and my Dixie lite chrome bore side by side is SN# 102.

The pacific Red wads that I use aren't made anymore but with the oversize bores in the Navy Arms they were the closest fit so I have several thousand of them. After some experimenting I found the best luck using a .03 to .07 thick over powder wad then the red wad. I have a 12ga. wad punch and use it to make over shot wads, I make them out of 1/2 gallon paper milk or juice cartons as they are plastic coated and don't absorb moisture as fast as the store bought wads.

Keep well away from plastic wads with black powder will give you a lot of trouble .

They have worked great for me for forty years and over 3000 plastic wads shot in my BP shotguns but I will quit using them as soon as they start giving me trouble:-)

I am only speaking from experience I have seen far to many black powder guns ruined through plastic  wads not only muzzle loaders but also breech loaders . They are one of the main reasons for barrel ripple also with build up of plastic in the bore may result in a bulge or worse still a bursted barrel .

PD...
The only problem I've had with this SxS is the locks. 20 yrs ago the right lock stuck at full cock and wouldn't fire. I had to take it apart and do a little stoning. Yesterday the left lock wouldn't stay at full cock. It isn't heat treated and rounded a some, had to stone that one a little too :-(    I can't complain too much though, I've shot over 3000 wads through it since I've owned it.
